PORCELAIN AND WHITE FILLINGS
Despite a patient’s best efforts, sometimes cavities develop. When they do, Dr. Rotroff offers a choice in fillings, depending on the patient’s needs. Sometimes called porcelain inlays or onlays, porcelain fillings can better strengthen and repair your tooth while retaining the tooth’s natural structure and color.
A distinct advantage to porcelain fillings is the fact that such fillings permanently bond. Another difference between porcelain fillings and other fillings is that the dentist will permanently bond the filling to your teeth and can be customized for a specific tooth or cavity. In fact, a porcelain filling can last up to 30 years.
Another type of filling Dr. Rotroff may recommend is white fillings. Since the filling uses a composite material (like resin) they contain no mercury.
Other advantages include:
- The filling material closely matches natural tooth color for a natural look.
- Filling material hardens before you leave the dental office.
- Less tooth structure is lost because the dentist can make a smaller preparation.
